What is a wire raceway?

A terrific wiring and cabling solution, that's what!

Raceways are an affordable way to run wires and cabling throughout residential, commercial or industrial environments. Of course, you need to make sure you are selecting the right product for the right application. Not every raceway is made for multi faceted applications.

Take the panduit raceway, for example. Although useful in many environments, it can only hold, guide and protect wires up to 300 volts and its made of plastic rather than metal. This makes it very versatile, but it might not be the right choice for a truly industrial environment like a mechanics shop or a military industrial area.

Panduit offers a complete line of UL rated products to 600V, including multichannel systems designed specifcally for low voltage and power cabling. Your tip is only correct for their low voltage raceway systems.

As a contractor I have installed plastic raceways in some harsh environments (schools...kids abuse everything!) and found the Panduit raceway to be extremely durable (confirmed by revisiting job sites years later), versatile and easy to install. You are correct, that it is plastic, however unlike other raceways I've used, the wall of the product is thicker (hence the durability) and it's made from self-extinguishing (94V-0) PVC...a fact that satisfies local fire inspectors.
Also, the Panduit raceways are rated at 600V (not 300V). Some products on the market do not meet the 600V requirement, which is another reason I stick with the Panduit solution.
