What is heat shrink tubing?

How Heat Shrink Tubing Works

CableOrganizer.com Tip: When heated, heat shrink tubing shrinks to the size and shape of the material underneath, making installation fast and easy. Heat shrink tubing is used to label and organize wires, cables, cords and conduit. It comes in a range of colors and sizes and is an alternative to taping or molding in place.

Here is how it works:

  • Print out the heat shrink label
  • Slide it over the wire or cable to be labeled
  • Once the label is in place, provide heat to the label
  • It shrinks to fit securely over the item
Experts say the benefits of heat shrink tubing is its flexibility and durability. However, be cautioned that overheating can cause it to become brittle.
