Outdoor Generators

A badly built outdoor cabinet for a generator might end up as a home for local wildlife. They can get in through cracks or ill-fitting joints and set up house, endangering your valuable equipment. Consider the environment for which you are buying - weather concerns, water, wildlife and other potential pests. Consider materials and construction. Make sure you protect your generator - if you don´t, you may be without it when you need it!

Protecting Your Generator Systems

Generator systems use expensive equipment that needs to be protected. If your generator is located outdoors, you have the added problem of tampering. Look for outdoor cabinets and outdoor enclosure that are tough, secure, and built to resist wear, tear, and abuse. Make sure that your outdoor enclosure meets NEMA 3R and NEMA 4 Standards and can be customized to meet special needs before you buy. Protect your investment with the right cabinet!

Maintaining Your Backup Generator

Your backup generator is your safeguard when the power fails, so you need to make sure it is in good working condition when you need it. Not only should it be protected from the elements, make sure you have sufficient fuel and maintain the engine. Like a car, make sure you have the right fluid levels and test your generator once a month to ensure its in working order.

Choosing Your Standby Generator

Looking for generator information? If you´re thinking of getting a standby generator, you need to know how much work it will have to do. In order to make sure your generator meets your power requirements, decide in advance which appliances you want to keep using in the event of an outage. Then, you have to find out how much current (measured in amps) and voltage each of them requires. Total up the current, and the voltage of the appliances you want to keep using, and use that to select the generator that best suits your needs.

How Home Generators Work

A home standby generator is plugged into a wall socket so it can continually monitor the power supply. When the power fails, it senses it through the plug and automatically kicks in. With more advanced generators, you can configure them to specify which appliances will remain available if the generator takes over during an outage.

NEMA Standards for Enclosures

When you are considering outdoor enclosures for your backup generator, you should be aware of the standard guidelines applied to outdoor enclosures. Here is some generator information. NEMA 3R: Type 3R enclosures are intended for outdoor use primarily to provide a degree of protection against falling rain; and to be undamaged by the formation of ice on the enclosure. NEMA 4: Type 4 enclosures are intended for indoor and outdoor use primarily to provide a degree of protection against corrosion, windblown dust and rain, splashing water, and hose-directed water; and to be undamaged by the formation of ice on the enclosure.
